Gut health. We see it everywhere and we know it’s important. But in our opinion, a majority of us don’t truly value its importance until we look 6 months pregnant from bloat, experience the uneasy stomach after a meal, and our favorite…too busy destroying our bathroom when we’re late for a meeting. But we’re not alone. Dogs also suffer from all of the above, and sometimes we’re the ones that have to clean it up if they can’t make it outside.
So how do we prioritize gut health without drastically changing our lifestyle? Because let’s face it, we like cheese too much to give it up and your dog likes licking up your scraps that fall from the counter. The answer? Propionic Acid. Sounds scary, but not as scary as coming home to your dog shitting on your new rug because he couldn’t hold it any longer.
Propionic Acid is a type of short-chain fatty acid that is naturally produced in the gut through the fermentation of dietary fiber by gut bacteria. It is also found in small amounts in some foods, including cheese, yogurt, and bread….and our product Poochbooch. Sorry bud, we’re solving your dog’s gut health first.
The Propionic Acid found in Poochbooch is sourced from…. This form of Propionic acid takes the gut "JED FILL IN"
Potential Benefits for Gut Health
Studies have suggested that propionic acid may have a positive impact on gut health in both humans and animals. For example, a 2017 study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry found that propionic acid improved the intestinal barrier function in mice. This means that it helped to prevent harmful substances from leaking from the gut into the bloodstream.
In another study, published in Avian Pathology the effect of propionic acid on salmonella was studied. The researchers noted that the acid reduced pathogenic bacteria and improved bird health and growth.
Propionic acid plays an important role in the fermentation of dietary fiber in the large intestine, which can help to promote the growth of beneficial bacteria and maintain a healthy gut microbiome. Studies have shown that propionic acid may help to reduce inflammation in the gut, which can lead to conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease. It may also help to improve gut motility, which can reduce symptoms of constipation and diarrhea.
If you have a dog with a sensitive stomach, the occasional accident, or you just want to make their gut health top notch…then throw them some Poochbooch. Your carpet, dog, and cleaning bill will thank us later.
